Our Story

The origins of Black Moon are quite interesting. It all started over 25 years ago….

I was a freshly ordained pagan priest eager to start my own coven. My new bride and priestess by my side, I was ready to take on the world. I had been bothered by the lack of balance most pagans had in their rituals and practices. All the emphasis was on the goddess and on the full moon. There was a great deal of animosity towards the patriarchal religions that dominate our society. What really bothered me was how in the midst of creating change, we forgot the underlying message. BALANCE.

What we wound up with was just the opposite of what we were fighting. A matriarchal religion focused on Luna and the Full Moon. Still, unbalanced and incomplete. The Full Moon is the completion of the spell, but without the New Moon the spell was never begun. Just as it takes male and female to make our offspring, it takes new and full moons to make a whole.

We decided that we needed to draw some more attention to the new moon. I’m sure you have all heard of a Blue Moon. When there are 2 Full moons in one month. Well, the Black Moon is similar just with the New Moon. It seemed to get people’s attention and thus the name of the new coven was born.
